she then swam to the shore after spending the whole night in the water.能否改为she then swam to the shore after she had spent the whole night in the water.
改后意义有什么不同吗?

有区别，前者是紧接着的动作，也就是她一晚上晚在水中后游到岸上，而后者可能两个动作之间有间隔，比如说，她在某一天晚上呆在水中后还去做了别的事情，之后再游到岸上

意思上没有区别，只是前者简略而已。
