中国服务贸易竞争力研究基于以下研究背景：一是经济全球化对服务贸易影响加深；二是世界服务经济的迅速发展与服务贸易的扩大化趋势；三是目前我国货物与服务净出口剪刀差加大、服务贸易连续逆差的国际贸易态势。服务贸易竞争力问题的研究不仅关系到国际服务贸易竞争力的提高途径和进程，也与一个国家或地区的综合国际竞争力紧密相关，而我国此方面的理论研究相对较弱。因此，这一方面的研究有着重大的理论与现实意义。 本研究包括以下几个方面的内容：一是简要描述中国服务贸易的基本特征；二是根据中国服务贸易的基本特征归纳出中国服务贸易的发展现状；三是对中国服务贸易发展中存在的问题进行深入分析；四是根据全球服务贸易的发展趋势分析影响我过服务贸易国际竞争力的因素。五是总结提高我国服务贸易国际竞争力的有效措施。通过对不同国家服务贸易竞争力的实证研究，我们得出的主要结论是：1.改革开放以来，中国服务贸易虽然发展迅速，但总体水平不高。 2.中国服务贸易不仅总体水平低，整体竞争力差，而且出口结构不合理。因此，我们应重视这一薄弱环节。3.我们当前的选择是在发挥中国服务业的竞争优势的同时，分阶段、有重点地发展高层次的知识、技术密集型服务业，尽快缩小差距。4.服务业开放程度低，对外开放水平不高。这就要求：一方面要适当保护某些尚处于幼稚状态的服务业；另一方面，我们应根据行业特点、地区条件好坏逐步推进服务业的开放。
