人体整个睡眠过程具有两种不同的时相状态。其一是脑电波呈同步化慢波的时相;其二是脑电波呈现去同步化快波的时相。前者称慢波睡眠;后者称为快波睡眠。快波睡眠期间,各种感觉进一步减退,唤醒率提高;骨骼肌反射运动和肌紧张进一步减弱,肌肉几乎完全松弛;脑电波呈现去同步化快波;此时,还会有间断性的阵发性表现,如眼球快速运动,部分躯体抽动、血压心率升高、呼吸加快而不规则等。
