关于the的英语小问题

中有这么一句：Insects would make it impossible for us to live in the world;they would devour all our crops and kill our flocks and herds,if it were not for the protection wo get from ______
insect-eating animals.

问题是划横线处要不要加个the呢？ 书上是没the的 但我觉得要加
下面不是特指吃昆虫的动物吗 是特指呀 应该要加the的 虽然animal是复数

这不是特不特指的问题。

你可以注意到insect-eating 这个词，它中间加了一条横线，说明这不是两个

分开的词而是一个词了，这样的话insect-eating就是一个专有名词，专有名词是不

需要加THE的。

但如果是insect eating就需要加THE，因为是普通词构成的名词，加THE来显示它的独一性，从而成为专有名词。

比如说tiananmen和the great wall两者就是一个典型的例子。
