VINTAGE HAND-CARVED BONE WHISTLE — Simple design, but beautifully carved. This whistle is all bone with the exception of the piece at the mouth area, which is carved of wood, and has been pinned into the bone on each side. The opposite end has a finial-type design, and a hole was carved into it to allow for hanging on a cord. Typical of American turn of the century whistles used by ranking officers. The whistle's length is 3 5/8 inches long, and the diameter at its widest part toward the top is just barely under an inch. The ball on the inside appears to be the same type of wood that was used for the mouth area. The sound of the whistle is very loud and sharp. This is a really nice piece, with excellent carving, and it is in perfect condition.
