Colky was born in March, 1868. His father died when he was young. He spent his childhood with his grandfather. At the age of 11, he began to work. He did many jobs. In the summer of 1889 and the spring of 1891, Golky traveled twice around Russia on foot. In this way he knew the society better. In 1892 Golky’s first work was published. Thus he began to work as a writer. One of his best known works is Seagull, which was published in March, 1901. In his book Golky revealed the serious social problems of Russia by describing nature. In 1936, Golky died of illness.
