1968——1972年拜民间建筑匠师（古建名师）学习建筑木作。
1973——1980年村办木业社，木器加工厂，任技术员。
1981——1993年在民办建筑施工队任技术员、管理员。
在此期间参加过市建委举办的民建工程监理培训学习。
1994——1997年在建筑施工队任技术员、工长。
1998——2001年在古建施工队任技术员、预算员、工长。
在此期间参加过常家庄园修复建设的全过程。
2002——2004年跟随省古建专家学习古建筑工程设计，期间受政府专门机构聘请参与榆次老城等多处旅游景区的古建筑工程设计
2004年秋——2008年，受聘于XX古建筑艺术有限公司，先后任海南工地工程项目经理。古建工程设计室技术主管等。先后为乔家大院修复续建工程；乌金山景区修复建设工程提供了成套设计方案等。为吉林省长白山历史文化苑成功地提供了长白山寺的整体规划设计方案。
在此期间，参加了2006年北京市园林局举办的文物古建筑工程，监理工程师培训学习。
杜德贵对古建筑艺术有着特有的爱好与追求。拜访名师，订阅技术专刊，参阅名师论著，考察史留建筑实例。研究古建筑作法上的时代区别，对比南北、东西不同的地方风格。
从古建筑的造型式样，用途功能到取材品种，用材规格直至结构卯榫、做法技巧，从施工程序组织，技术要点处理，到新技术开发应用，从古建筑的单体造型构造到古建筑的群体安排，从平面布局到立体造型，从园林的亭廊小点到寺庙的多层阁楼，从民居的小门小舍到官方的城门城楼及王府、殿堂……
几十年来在园林古建筑行业中走过了艰难而漫长的学习与发展道路。积累了丰富而宝贵的施工技术，施工管理及古建筑工程规划设计之经验。同时也留下了不少大众赞赏、专家好评的优秀的古建筑设计与施工作品。
足迹走过了从东北吉林到海南三亚之半个中国。
