In 1973,after 11 years of activity,the APB was terminated. Its place was taken by a seven_member Financial Accounting Standard Board(FASB).The seven members serve full time,receive salaries,and must resign from accounting firmd and other employment.They must have a knowledge of accounting ,finance,and business,but are not required to be CPAs.The FASB is widely accepted as the major influence in the private sector in the development of new financial accounting principles and its Statement of Financial Accounting Standards(SFAS) must be considered as authoritative expressions of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles(GAAPs).
