现代篮球运动是谁引入中国的？

篮球运动是在1895年9月传入中国天津。这与基督教青年会在天津的发展有密切的关系。

最早的一次篮球表演
1895年9月，美国人来会里博士（Dr.Lyou，中国名字叫李昂），受北美青年会的派遣来中国天津筹建城市青年会，同年12月8日天津中华基督教青年会在医学堂成立。会前与会后都表演了篮球游戏。
1896年1月11日下午4时，天津中华基督教青年会举行了中国篮球运动史上较为正式的篮球表演。在考证近代篮球传入中国起始的问题上，据1948年赴美的吴志钢博士提供，1896年天津基督教青年会曾公布以下三次英文布告，布告的原件收藏在纽约市百老汇街291号基督教青年会历史图书馆内。吴志钢博士特地将3次英文布告抄后寄回国内。这三次英文布告的内容是：
