偏见是指对待其他群体时所表现出的不公正的、歧视的、狭隘的态度。例如，那种认为女人逻辑思维能力不如男人，不应当掌权的想法，就是偏见，偏见是阻碍跨文化交际成功的一大因素。有文化偏见的人通常对别的文化带有抵触情绪，他们认为别的文化对自己的文化产生了威胁，因此他们只愿意和自己有相同文化背景的人交往。人都不喜欢不熟悉的事物，因此回避开陌生的事物，亲近自己熟悉的事物。因此要使跨文化交际成功，就得尽量避免“定势”和偏见。
我对“定势”的理解是已固定生根的观念，“fixed concept”。
Prejudice refers to treating other groups of people with unfair, discriminatory and parochial mentality. For example, the conviction that the logical thinking capacity of women is inferior to men and so women should not be in a dominant position, that is prejudice; it is a major impeding factor to a successful cross-cultured interaction. People with cultural prejudice often regard other cultures with antagonistic emotions; they feel their own culture is threatened by them, so they prefer only to mix with people of similar cultural background. People all dislike unfamiliar things, they try to avoid them and cling to things that are familiar to them. Therefore, it is essential to avoid “fixed concept” and prejudice in order to succeed in cross-cultured interactions.
