国外法庭上，证人将要作证时，法官将证人把一只手放在圣经上，另一只手举起来。
法官问的话我只记得什么什么,,you said ,,,,is the truth ....all the truth ........还有什么nothing but the truth?
然后证人保证：“ I do !”

通常有两种宣誓，一种是以圣经(bible)的名义宣誓，一种是庄严承诺(solemn affirmation)，第二种适用于没有宗教信仰的证人，如果没有宣誓程序，通常默认为庄严承诺。

圣经宣誓（Forms of Oath）
Judge: Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?

证人可以直接回答 I do或I swear.

也有些情况要求证人宣誓如：
Witness aged 18 years or over：
" I swear by Almighty God that the evidence which I shall give shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."

Witness under the age of 18 years：
" I promise before Almighty God that the evidence which I shall give shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."

庄严承诺：
Judge: Do you solemnly affirm that the evidence you shall give shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
