2, he built a telescope by which he could study the skies;他制作了一个望远镜，可以用来研究星空了which 代表前面的 telescope，你把后面那个句子还原就成了he could study the skies by the telescope.而你总不能说是 he could study the skies the telescope 吧。
3 Since it was a hot day,we all went swimming.主要是一个句子里逻辑主语要一致，原句中前面那半句的主语是天气，后半句又是我们，这不明显不对吗。按照一般的语法来讲就要翻译成“我们是热天，我们去游泳”。哈哈
加一个连词，让天气很热那半句变为状语从句
