首先这里的came the news是一个倒装。。就像there comes a bus一样。。
而后面的that则是代指后面的 “the enemy were gone"..
整句话的意思是：一大早就传来消息说敌人已经离开了。
如果选what的话句子的意思就说不通了~~~
因为the enemy were gone里面什么成分都不缺，所以不必用提问词来提问
这只是一句宾语从句
