House, aptly named after the show's main character, Dr. Gregory House, a surgeon whose rough and stony exterior shields a heart that is, well, equally hard and stony. This is one of many recent television series whose protagonist strays from the traditional hero imagery. Dr. House's antagonizing ways at least partially contribute to his ingenuity, and certainly contributes a large part of the ratings. Though I'm not sure if I'm entirely comfortable with the idea of the darker side of the viewers being satisfied through House, I must admit that this is one show not to be missed.
