1985年5月中国高尔夫球协会在北京成立。经过二十多年的推广与普及，高尔夫在国内已有了较为广泛的群众基础，并逐渐形成了较为稳定的赛事运作模式，高尔夫赛事是高尔夫运动发展的重要组成部分，其赛事职业化、市场运作改革直接关系着我国高尔夫运动走向成熟的过程，故而高尔夫竞赛中存在的诸多不谐调因素已成为影响当前我国高尔夫运动发展的瓶颈，主要表现为虽有国际一流赛事，却没有国际一流球员，现阶段职业选手综合能力的提升速度不能达到其本身初衷的期望，大部分选手对竞技高尔夫所包含涉及的领域不能完全了解，职业选手同样缺乏长久的职业规划，大部分选手在其职业生涯中选择依靠自身实力孤军奋战。因此在新世界体育产业高速发展，高尔夫运动风靡世界，我国体育消费勃兴的新形势下，高尔夫运动的高度观赏性需要高水平的选手取制造赛事看点，政府和高尔夫协会的大力支持、有望成为体育产业中的支柱的形势下，我国迫切需要出现一批高素质的国际一流选手。因此，研究我国高尔夫竞技人才的开发对我国高尔夫运动的发展具有重要的理论价值和实践意义。
本课题采用文献资料法、调查法、比较法、录像分析法、数理统计等科研方法，对我国高尔夫竞赛现状与职业选手发展对策进行了较为深入的研究。
针对当前高尔夫竞技人才开发存在的主要问题，提出具体的发展对策：现役职业选手逐步加强自身能本管理；建立优良的组织管理体制和运行机制；推动高尔夫竞赛市场化。
