There are many innovations underway in the development of inter-firm strategies for supply chain management in the American agri-food sector.These tend to be “local”,not “global” experiments in finding new organizational forms to replace tradtional market relationships between vertically-related firms.They are local in the sense that there are no clear,stable norms that other firms emulate in broad consensus.The term that institutional theorists use for this emulation is mimetic isomorphism (Scott 1995).The argument is that during periods of structural change,a search process ensues for new institutional forms.Competing forms are tried,evaluated,and then adopted.The most successful new forms are mimicked and over time they become a dominant,or sole,form of institution-isom
