Dilnot (1996) in his essay The Gift points out “all commodities, all products, are subject to an act of choice as to whether they may potentially function as a ture gift”. Sherry similarly explains, “virtually any resource, whether tangible or intangible, can be transformed into a gift. Objects, services, and experiences may be conferred as gifts”. It would thus seem that a “gift” is not defined by any intrinsic property of the object.
