would be 系动词做谓语，

分析步骤是：首先是找出动词谓语，然后主语及其它成分。一点一点进行分析。
应该是the first step( in achieving it) would be to have a degree of self-knowledge.
这样去分.
也就是the first step为主语.
至于你说的定语从句,完全是错的.就算是定语从句作宾语,你的谓语到哪里去了?

这个压根不是定语从句，翻译出来就知道了，it是指代前面的happiness。
