随着连铸技术的发展，滑板作为连铸用功能性耐火材料之一，其使用条件越来越苛刻，对其性能要求也越来越高，尤其是其抗热震稳定性能和抗渣侵蚀性。含碳耐火材料最大的弱点就是碳的氧化造成材料的损毁，为了防止碳在高温下氧化以及提高耐火材料的机械强度，使用Si、Al之类的金属和SiC、B4C之类的碳化物作金属为添加剂。
当添加Si、Al之类的添加剂时，由于这些金属与碳或空气中的N2发生反应，析出SiC、AlN晶须和Al4C3板状结晶，弥补了耐火材料组织的空隙，使内部气孔变小，加强了骨料颗粒之间以及骨料颗粒与基质的结合，从而使制品强度增加。同时所生成的碳化物、氮化物起到了抗氧化的作用。Al2O3－ZrO2－C质滑板是目前连铸过程中钢包用主流滑板，从目前大多数生产工艺看，生产Al2O3－ZrO2－C质滑板时，均引入金属硅和少量金属铝，旨在提高滑板的强度，和在使用过程中，改善滑板的抗氧化性和抗侵蚀性。
向烧成铝锆碳滑板中加入2-3%Al粉能提高材料强度，并能降低铝锆碳滑板的烧成温度，但随着铝含量的增加，材料抗水化性能降低。添加SiO2微粉可以提高材料的抗水化性能，并能降低材料在高温时的膨胀。本课题通过改变铝粉和SiO2微粉含量，研究烧成温度与制品强度、抗水化性能和抗侵蚀性之间的关系，为进一步降低生产成本和提高滑板性能指明方向。
