切片机电气控制系统主要拖动电机有5台，分别是：①带锯电机M1，驱动刀片旋转，切割泡沫塑料，由交流接触器KM1控制；②两个磨刀电机M2、M3，带动砂轮对刀片研磨，使刀片保持锋利，由于其功率较小，所以可用一个交流接触器KM2控制；③台面电机M，为直流电机，驱动台面前移或后移；④刀架电机M4，通过涡轮/蜗杆传动机构减速，驱动左、右丝杆正转或反转，刀架随滑套上移或下移。因此设计采用PLC控制，PLC的通用性强，灵活性好，接线简单，功能的扩展能力强，编程语言简单，易掌握，对电源的要求不高。
论文中根据要求设计了5台电机主电路的设计图。切片机的运行控制技术要求输入信号30个，输出信号7个，且全部为开关量控制。欧姆龙型可编程控制器，CPM1A系列属于小型PLC。主机规格为40点I/O分配（24点输入，16点输出），因此需要增加I/O扩展模块。这种PLC采用多种编程设备进行编程，在现场调试和编程比较常用的是手持式编程器，它体积小，结构紧凑，便于携带。它具有逻辑运算、定时、计算、顺序控制、通信等功能。小型PLC价格十分便宜。
因此选用欧姆龙-CPM1A系列来实现切片机的控制，同时根据具体要求还设计了PLC的硬件电路图，以及梯形程序图的编制，并对梯形程序图进行软件仿真。
