问一个英语上语法的小问题

有一个例句:The classroom which (that)was cleaned yesterday is ours.
老师说这里的which (that)was可以省去 句子照样成立。

请问这是什么语法项？是怎么运用的？具体说一下可以么？能再举一些常用的例子帮助理解么？

which (that)was cleaned 在这里就是一句典型的定语从句，修饰前面的classroom

而这些定语从句往往可以用过去分词（-ed形式）或者现在分词（-ing形式）表示的，大家都是起修饰的作用

The classroom which (that)was cleaned yesterday is ours。这个句子是用定语从句修饰教室

The classroom cleaned yesterday is ours是用动词的过去分词形式做定语，起修饰作用

The dog that is following me is mine。这里也是定语从句修饰小狗

The dog following me is mine这里就是用动词的现在分词做定语

总之记得，定语从句往往可以用过去分词（-ed形式）或者现在分词（-ing形式）表示的，大家都是起修饰的作用
而ed 还是ing形式就要看是侧重于主动还是被动罗~~

简单说的话，就是当从句是be+过去分词的时候这种省略是可以的。比如

The boy who was injured in the accident is in hospital now.等同于
The boy injured in the accident is in hospital now.

I love eatting an apple which is picked directly from the farm. 等同于
I love eatting an apple picked directly from the farm.

如果是be+not+过去分词的从句则不实用于此。比如
The essay that is not submitted belongs to Jack.就不能写成
The essay not submitted belongs to Jack.
