”people love to listen to him”中”him”前为什么要用”to”？

因为listen是不及物动词，必须要后加介词才能跟名词。英语中，动词分为及物于不及物两类。

及物动词后直接加名词作宾语，例如,

ride a bike (骑车)，
light a cigar (点燃雪茄烟)，
watch a movie (看电影)

不及物动词 + to/for/at + 名词，例如，

listen to the radio (听广播)，
aim at the target (瞄准靶子)，
speak to the audience (对听众说)

那是listen的固定搭配，也就是说listen都是要和to一起用的。比如listen to me（听我说）

him是he的宾格形式，而在这句话中“他”是作为宾语的。应该是“人们听他说”，这儿人们是主语，他是宾语，所以用宾格形式
