尽管我不是一个美国人，但在我的意识中，美国人代表着自由、热情、随和。美国是一个移民国家，有着来自世界各地不同肤色的人，所以好客也是美国人的特点。
美国人以欧洲移民为主体，人数最多。因此美国文化是在欧洲文化基础上发扬光大的现代欧美文化。但不同的是，美国人更加崇尚于自由、民主。欧洲文化的重理性、重科学等特性在现代美国文化中也有所继承。美国人协调社会关系用法律，而不是用人情；美国人热爱科学，相信实力，以发达的科学技术和雄厚的经济实力向世人说话。
中国文化有着几千年的历史，这古老的岁月本身就具有无尽的财富，文化也同名胜古迹一样，时间愈久远，便愈具有无以伦比的价值。美国只有两百年的历史，美国的文化，是一群现代人，按照现代人的意志和思维模式构建起来的一座现代文明的宫殿。美国人完全在按现代人的需要去创造科学，创造财富，创造民主的社会制度。这是中国和美国的区别。
美国的历史并不是十分的悠久，但是它发展的却非常迅速。21世纪的电子革命，美国无疑是一个领头者。这也让许多美国人感到骄傲。IBM、HP、APPLE、GE、Microsoft都源自于美国，而且广泛运用于世界。
美国人乐观、务实、坚强的性格特点在世界上有着很好的声誉，这也许就是“美国”(America)的中文全称被译作了美（beautiful）、利（profit）、坚（solid）的原因，这三个字都有很好的含义。
我来美国已有1个星期了，在寄宿家庭中，我更是了解到美国人的特点，温和、热情、风趣。美国人很喜欢小动物，这也是为什么几乎每个美国人家中都有宠物的原因。
记得上学的第一天，在回家的路上我迷路了。我只好招手拦了一部汽车，车里坐着2个美国人，我向他们说明我是中国人，第一天在美国上学，并且迷路了。他们很爽快的说了一句：“上车”。我把地址告诉了他们，他们便把我送回了家。美国人的热心值得肯定。
这就是我对美国人的理解。
