if i were to become parents, i would treat my children as if they are my friends. Apart from showering them with love and care, i would instill in them the values and principles that will guide and benefit them in life. Having played the role of a son/daughter (看你是男孩还是女孩），i fully understand the changing emotions of my children in their path of growing up. I would not admonish, but rather, express my concern in a discussive and persuasive manner when my children does something wrong. Treating children as mature young adults with equivalent level of respect is the best way to maintain positive and cordial relationship with parents and children.
