【急求回答！】sit和beside能否同用？！

我测验时翻译句子：那个男孩坐在我的旁边擅长于数学
我写了The boy sits beside me is good at maths.
但错了，应该是next to
我问老师为什么不行，老师好像说都是什么什么【忘了= =】词，不可以一起用
请问都是啥词= =
到底可不可以用，因为我看到好像网上也有很多人这样写哦。。。
我要做错题归纳。。。
为什么不能同用咧？

The boy sitting next/beside me is is good at maths.
The boy seated next/beside me is is good at maths.
The boy who/that is sitting next/beside me is is good at maths.
The boy who/that is seated next/beside me is is good at maths.
上面四句都成立，但是后两句不地道。
beside 与 next to 在这里没有区别，可以换用。

确切的说你这句话有2个动词了，sit和is当然不对咯
用sitting就可以了

The boy next to me is good at maths.
or
The boy sitting beside me is good at maths.
如要用，就用分词。
