Kate could not figure out why the school had put Nadia in a class where she could not understand what people were saying.
"Why did they do this?"Kate wondered aloud."I mean,you can't learn if you can't understand the teacher."

凯特不明白，为什么学校把纳迪亚放在一个她完全听不懂同学在说什么的班里。
“为什么这样做呢？”凯特大声问。“我的意思是，如果你连老师说什么都听不懂，根本没办法学习啊！”
纳迪亚低声耳语：“我懂英语，我会学习的。”纳迪亚的英语是完美的。
凯特困惑了。她不明白纳迪亚为什么不喜欢说英文。然后，她突然意识到，移民到一个新的国家可能不是最容易的事情。哪里有成千上万的不熟悉和不寻常的东西需要同时去学习和接受。
“是不是有很多新的东西需要学习？”凯特问。
纳迪亚迅速点了点头，用平静的声音回答说：“很多事情大家说的东西我都听不懂。我所有生活中都是讲英语和罗马尼亚语，但我不知道有些小孩子说的东西。比如昨天一个男孩问我能否帮他在手上拿着的一个黑色扁平的盒子上找到USB接口。那个接口难道不是船舶地方？我完全不懂。”（UNNCTC注：此处USB接口的单词port还有港口的意思。）
“别担心，”凯特说。“你慢慢都会懂的。那个薄黑匣子是叫电脑。一个USB端口是一个地方，你可以用它把其他设备连接到电脑上。”
纳迪亚和凯特安静了一会儿。老师在上面讲数学课，两人在下面记笔记。凯特惊讶地发现，纳迪亚举起手，表示愿意回答黑板上的问题。
纳迪亚认真回答着老师给的每一个问题。甚至有的题目非常难懂，除了纳迪亚和老师没有人听得懂他们在说什么。当老师宣布纳迪亚的答案全部正确的时候，全班响起了掌声。
纳迪亚微笑着坐回凯特旁边。“有些事情”，她用正常的声音说，“世界各地都是一样的。”
