July 30, 1863 Greenfield was born in Michigan City. Father was Irish immigrants, Henry's brother 6 who ranked first.
Henry's self-taught as a steam engine technician. In 1887 into the Detroit Edison Electric Light Company as a technician later promoted to chief engineer.
He applied himself to designing cars in 1896 made a trial two-cylinder air-cooled four-horsepower vehicle.
