UC知道看下这句英语有错吗

In the dark,you can not see anything.In the light,you can see there are two shadows behind the thing.
有错，
1：can not应该连用cannot或者can't
2：in the light不要，要不自相矛盾
3：后面那句话语法没错，但是意思也矛盾，既然什么都看不见为什么还能看见thing和后面的黑影呢？想表达的意思是什么呢
ps：回楼上 dark是可以作名词的，看意思不用改darkness
