"Ship Window" refers to the period of time in which a vendor is allowed to deliver cargo to a forwarder for shipment. The "ship window" consists of 3 dates:
Earliest Start Date (ESD): the earliest date a vendor may deliver cargo to a forwarder at origin.
Latest Start Date (LSD): the last day a vendor may deliver cargo to forwarder at origin.
Expected Start Date (XSD): the planned or expected date in which the vendor is to deliver P.O. cargo in exportable condition to a forwarder at origin.
The ship window and its 3 components (ESD, LSD, XSD) is diagrammed below.
ESD <-------------------- XSD ---------------------> LSD
(ESD = XSD - 7 days) (LSD = XSD + 7 days)
The standard ship window is 14 days as diagrammed above. The ship window provides a reasonable time frame that allows the vendor to deliver cargo for shipment without incurring any storage costs or late penalties.
