Abstract:
The output of body scanning is a set of exact body measurements including bust, waist, and hips. Beyond exact body measurements, pattern makers could generate better fitting patterns if they understood the fit preferences of individuals. The purpose of this report is to compare data from a series of studies on fit preferences of black professional women, female college students, and a larger group of women in the U.S. Fit preference for fitted, semi-fitted, or loosely fitted garments were defined using sketches of classic apparel including a jacket, blouse, dress, skirt, and pants. Respondents were asked to self report body shape as hourglass, rectangular, pear or inverted triangle. Body cathexis and a scale examining clothing benefits sought (including sub-scales for fashion image, figure flaw compensation, sex appeal, clothing preference, fashion innovativeness and satisfaction with RTW and demographic variables were used to profile groups females based on body shape
