Given做为“假设”时的用法？

假设的假定的；承认的或假设的：
Given the condition of the engine, it is a wonder that it even starts.
倘若这发动机能发动的话，可真是不可思议

晕。。。这个在外国数学教材里是经常看到的啊。。。词霸没用，只是作为词汇本参考而已，翻译短语从来都是错的
