distant和far之间的区别是什么？

三个词都有"表示在时间、空间的远离、远隔或分开"的含义,但是具体用来仍有一定区别。

一、distant 相对于far来说更为正式一些,而且distant所表示的通常是具体的距离或者即便不具体也是相当长的距离。再者,distant和remote都可以表示关系的远近亲疏,而far则极少。Distant的反义词可以有close, friendly等。例句:

1 )The center of the city is about 10 miles distant from the station. 市中心距离车站约有10英里远。表示空间的距离。

需要注意的是:在表示距离的数字后面常常用distant来连接,而far, remote没有这种用法。

2)In the long distant past, our ancestors depended on handmade tools mostly. 在遥远的过去,我们的祖先主要是依靠手工工具。表示时间的距离。

3)Instead of stopping to speak, she passed by with only a distant nod. 她没有停下来谈话,只是冷冷地点了一下头走了过去。表示关系的亲疏。

二、far相对于其他两个词而言使用范围较广,含义也较复杂。在不同的词组中,其含义也有差异。

1.a long distance表示时间空间上的距离,但多用于书面语。常用的词组有:far away, far above/below, far from, as far as, far a-part from等。例如:Her parents don't live far away. 她父母住在不远的地方。

2.much/very/a lot…得多,很。常用词语有:by far, as far as, far and away等。

例如:

1)He works far longer hours than I do
