ABSTRACT
A novel（新型的） welding process called Dual Bypass（双旁路） GMAW has been developed by adding two bypass electrodes（电极）to traditional GMAW such that most of the melting current can flow through bypass electrodes and the base metal current which heats the base metal can thus be very small. Experiments have been performed to find the conditions which can assure that a stable Dual Bypass GMAW process be established and maintained. It was found that the desired（要求的） spray transfer （喷射过度）and quality welds can be achieved with a very small base metal current. As a result, the process can be used to produce a high deposition rate （熔敷率）while the base metal heat input be controlled at a very small level. The next step is to develop a procedure so that aluminum rings may be brazed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) with this ultra-low base metal heat input process.
