Hellen Keller的《Three Days to See》一个疑问？

此句话中"and" 用在此处好像不妥，我琢磨一天了，想不出and是什麼用法。不知Hellen Keller当时怎麼想的，哪位高人替她告诉我一下此处用and作何解？是否她犯了错误呢？可作为美文流传至今，想必也有点说不过去吧。渴求高人抹去我心中的阴霾。

那个地方根本就没有and。中国人就那样，没有创造，就只知道copy，连错误都copy. 你真行，语法概念好。在“the thrid day”里，本文中有许多错，国内同事都这样错：
错：busy boasts 应为：busy boats
错：spires. those 应为：spires, those
错：, a short time ago; I "saw" 应为：, a short time ago, I "saw"
错： , for them, 应为 , for they,
还有。。。
以上是一个教材了的东东，你说都这样错，我汗了。

想了一会儿，还是不清楚。可能是作家的个人习惯吧。没什么的，其实汉语也常有不通语法的事，呵呵，比如鲁迅的“似乎确凿”之类。
