在今天的美国，妇女就业已是较普遍现象，就业领域也已深入到科学界、律师界、军界、政府部门等原先属男性独占的领域。但是，今天美国就业中的不平等和歧视现象仍比比皆是，如有的领域仍排斥女性；妇女工资待遇比男性低；晋升机会比男子少；妇女首先成为经济萧条的牺牲品；工作中常受到男性的性骚扰等等。
在就业这方面仍存在着很多问题。同样一份工作男性能得到1美元，而女性只能得到74美分。世界500强企业中仅仅只有5%的CEO为女性。在不同的就业领域内和工作岗位以及就业后的不同阶段中，对于女性的歧视也是不同的，我觉得较为突出的表现为以下几个方面：
（一）就业机会不平等 造成性别歧视的一个主要因素是因为怀孕、生育和哺乳，除此之外就是一些传统的性别偏见使得用人单位将女生拒之门外。
（二）男女同工不同酬 在不同的行业中，男女同工不同酬成为一种残酷的现实。
（三）岗位性别隔离 由于受到传统工业和传统观念的影响，用人单位基于性别对求职者进行挑选，明显地 形成男性工作和女性工作分立的局面，从而产生了岗位性别隔离。
