做MESSAGE 的后置定语，因为一个现在分词短语要放在所修饰词的后面啊，那这个instructing him to come back.可以转化成一个定语从句which /that instructs him to come back .
captain instructing him to come back.
=captain who instructed him to come back.
后置定语.
不是作captain的后置定语 而是message的后置定语
=A message instrucking him to come back had been got by the captain from the land.
后面instructing him to come back做message的定语吧
